Another way to keep organized is to keep a list of things to do after your accident. This allows you to check off the things you have done, things you still need to do and things you need to follow up on. Adding their due dates is also helpful in ensuring no deadline is missed in the process.

4. Remember not to give out any information to the other driver’s insurance company without consulting a lawyer first.

By giving confirmation to record a phone conversation or discuss a settlement with the defendant’s insurance company, it’s likely that they’ll try to get you to agree to settle at a price much less than what you deserve. It’s not uncommon for insurance companies to make offers or select repair facilities for you that serve their own best interests—not yours. Be sure to take caution with the information you give out after the accident, and make speak to a lawyer you can trust right away. Otherwise, you may set yourself back on time restrictions and deadlines required for compensation.
